On a whim (and motivated by a $2 coupon), I decided to try a new product from Sally Hanson, called Miracle Gel. This nail polish claims to be "the only true two-step gel manicure with no light needed." Further, it alleges to last up to 14 days without chipping, does not require a UV light to cure the polish and unlike other gel polish, is easy to remove.
I'm not sure if others have experienced this, but after finally scraping off the bulk of a gel manicure (I never get it all off), my nails seem to be very weak and peel quite easily; not to mention the UV light dries out my cuticles. I love the look of gel polish, but I need something that lasts at least a week without chipping, is easy to remove and is affordable to use on a regular basis.
So it is with this criteria that I set out to my local Rite Aid in search of this so-called Miracle Gel nail polish. I purchased a kit much like the one pictured above but in an orchid color called, Street Flair.
The box instructs to apply two coats of polish (no base coat needed) and then one coat of top coat. The manicure leaves a thicker finish than typical nail polish and is a bit thinner than gel. It took a rather long time to "cure"--about 1 1/2 hours to fully dry (I managed to nick a few nails after an hour). But I have to say, much to my surprise, it stayed on! Even after hours of carrying wet boxes from my in-laws basement (we had a 500-year flood here in southeast Michigan) only the tips of my nails were worn, but not chipped. Quite a feat of strength in my book!
Therefore, it is with great enthusiasm that I recommend Sally Hanson's Miracle Gel! Go to Fashion Sensei on Facebook for a $2 off coupon if you would like to try it. But hurry! It expires before the end of the month.
